About the Ride

Riding 100 miles is a huge accomplishment, whether you’re a seasoned cyclist or someone who’s getting back into shape. To ride 100 miles is NOT easy.  It is a test of will, determination, and endurance. The fact that you’ve committed the time, energy, and funds already speaks volumes about your commitment.  The ride will be fun, enjoyable, and a great way to achieve a substantial fitness level.

The City To The Sand 100 Mile Ride will take place on Saturday 9/12/09, Rain or Shine.

Here is a rough schedule for the day:

6:00-7:15am: Check in and light breakfast at Conrads Bike Shop 25 Tudor City Place, NYC 10017 (212) 697 6966.  The shop will be open for any last minute mechanical issues and purchases.

7:30am SHARP: We Ride…north on 1st Avenue up to 59th street over the bridge, we wind our way through Long Island City, eventually winding up in southwestern Nassau County. We’ll be traveling through mostly residential neighborhoods, this will make for very safe riding. The ride profile for the whole 100 miles is pretty much flat. We’ve chosen the route based on safety and rider ability. We’ve made sure everyone will be able to complete the selected distances ( 50 or 100 miles). Once the ride crosses into Suffolk County, around Babylon, the complexion of the ride will change. It will become more scenic, rolling and we’ll all be feeling the urge to really “let it rip” on the back half of the ride.

Rest stops will be approximately every 20 miles with a full blown lunch stop at the third stop at about 60 miles.

Food, drinks, bathrooms, medical aid and mechanical assistance will be available at each stop.

At any point during the ride if a rider is feeling like they can’t continue, they’ll be “moved along” to a point that’s close enough to the finish, so that if they’d like they can get out and continue to ride and cross the finish line with the rest of us.

There will plenty of very, very experienced cyclists along on the ride to provide riders with all the necessary motivation, encouragement, and technical support (e.g. quick flat tire change…).

Upon finishing in The Hamptons all riders will receive a special finishers medal, enjoy plenty of delicious food and drink and relax!!!
